I am going to be a council worker!!! Do they have a proper name like government workers are called Civil Servants??
Anyone want to know anything about Surestart and Children's Centres, I'm your girl.

Thank you everyone for your help and support.
Yes we have a proper name and it's not civil servants:eek:. You are now a Public Sector worker and are called a Local Government Officer - sounds much grander than Civil Servant:rotfl:
I can tell you all about the finance of Surestart, it's WAG funded here in Wales under the Cymorth Grant Umbrella!
Now the practicalities. Make sure you join the Superannuation fund for your pension. It's better than private sector at the moment.

I am delighted that you got the job Katgoddess - it proves your colleagues are good pickers! :j DEFINITELY join the pension fund, that's good advice from Poppy9. Also consider joining Unison, the public sector union. And if people tell you the stewards aren't much good, become one yourself - as Gandhi said, be the change in the world that you want to see.
Hope your colleagues have taken you out for a celebratory drink, and remind them they need to throw a leaving party for you as you are finishing your temp employment, then organise a welcome party for you when you start.
I work with an AD for Children & Families but I know nothing about anything - except phoning and emailing people to get their ****s into top gear and do what the big guy says!Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature. Forgot to mention cakes. You have to buy cakes for the office for getting a new job!

Hehehe!
I can't buy cakes! One of the issues we have is not eating junk food in front of clients! We have to set a good example and one of the big things with Every Child Matters is Be Healthy. :A As the team's dietician and oral health promoter keeps telling us. I'll have to have a think.
Maybe I could make some healthy cakes? Or buy some more breadsticks. :rotfl:
I will definitely be joining the union.
And the pension scheme! It was one of the main reasons why I wanted to go into the council rather than private sector.
Yes, I need some sort of party!

WELL DONE!!
Welcome to the wonderful world of the Public Sector employee - it is much better than the private sector IMHO, I would not go back!
And the final salary pension scheme is a "must have"!

Whooooooooo Hooooooooo!
Delighted to hear this!!!!! DO we have to bow down before you now?
GOOD LUCK IN YOUR NEW JOB!
P.S. Carrot cake counts as a vegetable, therefore healthy eating, doesn't it?Ex board guide. Signature now changed (if you know, you know).0 -
Bowl of fruit? Even dried fruit?Katgoddess wrote:Maybe I could make some healthy cakes? Or buy some more breadsticks. :rotfl:
I think you need to. I mean, being expected to go a whole day without chocolate ... that's seriously discriminatory against women with PMT! :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:Katgoddess wrote:I will definitely be joining the union.Signature removed for peace of mind0 -
Well done!!! Really pleased for you!0

It's ok, I just empty my chocolate into a cereal bowl. Cakes are a bit harder to hide.
At Christmas, I'm planning on wrapping a tin of roses in brown paper and labelling it "dried fruit"! Or I might just get some dried fruit.
Now I can concentrate on the future, I'm busy planning an MP's visit, and a coach trip to a panto. And Christmas decorations!!! The whole team are pleased as well. :T0 -
