House Contents Insurance

Good evening all,

After having just sat and typed all my information into one of those comparision websites for a quote for contents insurance, I get to the end and it tells me 'there is an error, please call......'

When I rang them, they asked me all the same questions I had just answered on the net....and then he asked about BR! When I confirmed BR, he said they couldn't help me!!!!

Does anyone know which companies will accept BR?????:o

I think its confused.com that ask at the begining if you have been BR.

I use the Co-Op; very BR friendly and I called them to ask about the small print and they said it wouldn't affect the insurance at all.
  • Thanks for that. Can I get a quote from them on the net?
  • LLoyds told me it was fine, as long as I paid in full for the year, they wouldn't do installments with BR

  • I am with More Than, and rang them yesterday and told them about my BR. The lady I spoke to said it made no difference to them and it wasn't something they asked about and as long as I kept to the monthly payments, it would be all fine.
  • Does anyone know why home insurance is a problem and car insurance isn't? As an ex banker I'm just interested. I guess it's harder to substantiate a home insurance claim and less likely for a third party to be involved.

I'm with more than too and I hadn't told them so am glad to know they are ok with it.

I was advised by a lovely guy at Co-OP insurance to get a quote online as it has discounts applied, then use that quote to set up insurance over the phone (they have to override the credit check and this can't be done online). I have my car insurance with Co-op using this method, and have my house and contents insurance with Barclays, as I was in the branch anyway when my renewal was due, got them to run through a quote, and as I have a Barclays basic account they don't run credit checks for insurance when paying monthly through my Barclays account. Both insurers have been absolutely fine with me being an undischarged BR, and both quotes were competitive.

I wasn't aware there was a problem more with home insurance than car insurance when you're BR?

A lot of home insurances have a clause about BR while the car ones do not. The comparrison website that asks about BR is Gocompare.com

Esure are fine too, my OH has his car insurance with them, and we have the home insurance with the too. I rang and spoke to them and they don't mind.

I have often been penalised for OH's BR, as a lot of clauses say something along the line of 'have you or and of your household been declared bankrupt'. So double check!!! Also as this is unfair, the below link is an interesting read!! (hope the link works - i've never posted one before!!)
