Lease Extension Advice Please

Options
Hi, I have 82 remaining on the lease of my 2 bed flat. I have contacted the company who work on behalf of the freeholder and told them i wish to extend the lease and asked them how much it would cost to do so. They told me for them to quote this i would have to pay £94 which non-refundable and they would send me a form which i must fill out and return. I have received the form which asks questions like.....what type of property do you have......how much ground rent do you pay.......how many rooms does the property have......how much is the property worth etc. Is it common practice to have to fill out this kind of form and is it reasonable for them to charge me £94 to tell me how much it is going to cost to extend my lease.

Thanks in advance

Danny

There are online calculators available. Google lease extension.

The form you've been sent will form the basis of the information you'll need to hand.

Though you may need professional advice ultimately, as the area can be quite complex. Do not let your remaining lease fall under 80 years prior to taking action as the cost of the extension will increase at this point.

Choose your own representative don't feel pressurised into accepting the Freeholders agent.

Danny, investing in ground rents is all about charging leaseholders as much as possible at every turn in order to sweat the investment. I know this as I looked into buying ground rents myself.
I'm afraid they can pretty much charge what they like.
