AVON foundation, anyone?

Options
Not worn foundation for ages, but want to start wearing again. Could go to what I used to wear but flicking through the Avon book here I thought i'd try theirs as much cheaper than my old brand.

I am looking at either Perfectwear foundation or Ideal Shade, can anyone recommend one rather than the other? I have fairly normal skin, I tend to go for a shade darker than my skin tone really to give me a bit of colour.

Any advice if maybe the shades are dark anyway (look like it in the book) so stick with my tone or go lighter?

Thanks

  • Hi looks like your timing is perfect; Avon are shortly to introduce their 'swap your foundation for an Avon one of your choice for £4'....

Do you actually have an Avon rep, who calls on you or are you looking at ordering on-line? (There's an excellent thread on MSE, which a lot of Avon reps subscribe to - just search 'Avon' and am sure you'll find it. Lots of great advice on there. :T)

Getting back to your posting, all depends on how heavy a foundation you like. Avon's range is 'quite big' from Tinted Moisturisers (Radiance range) to Cream to Powder Foundations and everything in between including Minerals Loose Powder/Foundations (recommended for sensitive skin). Avon are in the process of issuing their reps with Foundation Colour Guides in all their current ranges so that could help you am guessing.....

  • Hi and thanks MC, my Avon rep is one of the Mums I see at school each morning, and lives only a couple of roads away so quite handy. I would say am after quite a full coverage, (not too many imperfections but I want a smooth even finish), without it looking heavy and caked on. My rep said I could order a few colours and try before I buy. Trouble being the pics in the brochure of colour samples are not very good and seem to vary throughout the book.

Thanks for the tip, i'll look at the Avon thread too.

I quite like Avon make up, I use a powder called Age Renew when I think I need it and its really very similar to EL Doublewear at a fraction of the cost, I order online not from a rep and in general I find that the colours are less dark in reality I havn't tried the foundations as my skin is very fickle and I've found another brand that seems to agree with me (Maybelline) for now anyway - good luck and happy testing:)
Thank you for this site Martin

  • You're very welcome BF; sounds like you've got a decent rep there (like everything in life, some are better than others) so she should look after you until you're sorted.

Surprisingly a lot of even regular Avon customers don't realise there's a 90 day no quibble full money back guarantee on 99% of Avon products because some reps don't mention it i.e. it involves a bit of hassle on the rep's part and, of course, loss of commission initially but hopefully it leads to a happy customer and potential future earnings for the rep. I liken myself to a 'mobile M&S' :rotfl: I'd much rather my customers try something and then return it if not happy than not order it in the first place.

Enjoy and let us know please which foundation you decide upon in the end (and why could be interesting too) - all good, useful feedback.

    Merry Christmas!

I've used this one in Shell. I am very, very pale, and the colour was slightly darker than my skin tone. The coverage is fab and gives an even colour without looking caked on. I highly recommend.

isn't blusher/bronzer better for colour? I use a bobbi brown foundation and when i bought my first bottle in august i was a number 2 and now in december im a 0. I think its best to make it blend in and use other things for adding colour. Nothing like a face that doesnt match the neck!

I know, don't worry I don't use it to turn myself into an ommpa loompa! I only want a slightly, very mild extra bit of colour. I use blusher, but for some reason (I've always done this) I've got it into my head that by having a little extra colour hides any imperfections too.

  • I've used a few Avon foundations, and loved them all except for one I bought that was marketed as a 'sensitive' foundation, but made my skin go crazy! I forget what it's called though, Calming Effects or something... avoid that one!

My personal fave is their mineral one. I tried their tinted moisturizer (forgot the name of that one as well! Maximum Moisture?) and found it was super-sheer colour wise so maybe avoid that one as well x

It's the Solutions Radiance range and yes, you're quite right, it's super sheer (suitable for all skin colours) but I don't like a heavy foundation so I use the Radiance and a bit of bronzer - looks nice and natural with a healthy glow. Each to their own and all that.
