Agency bank holiday entitlement

Hi

I have been working at a warehouse for a month through an agency.

I have heard that the 27Th and 28Th are normal working days.

These are bank holidays.

Do I have to work them, can they sack me if I don't?

Also I have been told if I don't work them I have to claim holiday pay, shouldn't bank holidays be payed for?

Thanks peeps.

  • Bank holidays are paid out of your holiday entitlement. A temporary worker is entitled to 5.6 weeks per year (28 days). This allows for 20 days holiday, and 8 days bank holiday. So yes, you will have to request holiday pay. HTH
Squares knitted for my throw ~ 90 (yes!!! I have finally finished it :rotfl: )
Squares made for my patchwork quilt ~ 80 (only the "actual" quilting to do now :rotfl:)
  • Do I have to work them if they are open and working?
  • if you haven't booked them as holiday, yes you do

As a temporary worker, you don't HAVE to work anything. But yes, they are perfectly within their rights to 'sack' you if you don't. As a temporary worker you can be finished for any reason whatsoever and with no explanation. If you don't want to work those days, chances are, they'll replace you with someone who will.
