13 week New Deal course and working part-time

I have been on JSA for 12 months. Recently I have started part-time work for 6 hours a week. I also do voluntary work in a charity shop. My job centre advisor has told me that I will have to give up both the part-time job and the voluntary work to go on the 13 week New Deal course. Surely this can't be right? Is there anyway I can keep these jobs while on the New Deal course?
Thanks very much.

Who is running the new deal 'course'? You may be able to incorporate what you are currently doing into New Deal. As I understand it, New Deal is about preparing you for work - so this may be an option.0
