I have bad DEBT on my credit report, the banks have no record of it!

Hi All,
I have had a wake up call and I am trying to get my finances in order I have old current account debt with Natwest and HSBC I have not touched the accounts in years and subsequently I do not have the Account numbers or sort codes any more, today I tried to make arrangements with both Banks but they do not have any record of the debts.
HSBC - I owe them £1890, the call centre told me to go to my local branch as they can not find the debt on the system. HSBC have not chased me for the debt nor have they to my knowledge passed on or wrote off the debt.
NATWEST - I owe £382, I was on the phone to Natwest for some time they put me through to various different departments I told them that I do not have my account details they eventually told me to write to Trident Credit Services with all of my contact details as that is where my debt is, after dome digging on here I found a number for them 08453015139. I called and they have no record of the debt either, I have never had any correspondence from Trident so I do not have a reference number.
It seems to me that no one is really interested and I am confused at to how I move forward with this now I want to get these debts gone.
If they are not actively pursuing me do they still affect my credit rating?
I have checked my credit report and I stopped defaulting on the accounts well over 2 years ago.
Any information would be a massive help.
Many Thanks
Tonie

The banks havbe probably solkd the debts onto to a DCA somewhere.
When did you first default on the accounts? If you've have not made a mistake, you've made nothing0 -
if they have not been chased for more than six years they become statute barred meaning that they cannot be chased as they have had ample time to do so and if they haven't in six years they can't. It may be worth getting a copy of your credit file in order to see what is on there and if there is nothing there - bingo - you're clear - careful on the timing if it is less than 6 years you could reignite collection activity0

If these accounts still show on your credit file then its likely they are still affecting your rating. What is the original default date shown for each debt?nicolascowen wrote: »if they have not been chased for more than six years they become statute barred meaning that they cannot be chased as they have had ample time to do so and if they haven't in six years they can't. Thats not quite the case. If the accounts were statute barred (assuming no transactions through the account for 6years and no court action) then they can still legally chase the debtor for payment up until the point that they write to the creditor to tell them its statute barred and don't intend to pay.A smile enriches those who receive without making poorer those who giveor "It costs nowt to be nice"0 -
RAS,
I have just checked my report I have not got a record of my first default with Natwest as it is not on there, the Natwest account is a old solo account with no overdraft facility, the balance is purely charges.
The first time I defaulted on the HSBC was June 2006, then I got everything up to date and I defaulted in December 2007 and I have not made a payment since.
None of this information is available for Natwest.
Thanks0 -
There can only be one actual default date on each debt - for HSBC do you mean you missed payments in June 06 and Dec 07? If so these are not actually default notices (or at least both cannot be).
Is this the only time recently you have checked your credit file? if so checking your file (and providing a current address) can often lead to debt collectors starting to chase you for old debts again - so its possible that you could get letters through soon from a debt collector. I would wait to see if you hear anything from them over the next month or so.
As the natwest account was a solo account its possible that they never obtained your permission to report to the credit agencies (as it wasn't intended to be credit). Again Trident may contact you again soon as a result of you contacting natwest or requesting your credit file.
If they do then you'll need to work out how long ago since you used the natwest account - is it likely to be 6years or nearly 6years or nowhere near that?
If trident (or anyone) do write to you them come back for advice - if its not statute barred then you'll be advised to start with the prove it letter and then if they can prove you owe the money you might want to consider offering a reduced full & final settlement.A smile enriches those who receive without making poorer those who giveor "It costs nowt to be nice"0 -
The latter of the 2 dates for HSBC is the default date.
This is the first time in years I have checked my file I have recently moved back in with my parents but I have had the same address for about 10 years.
I have called trident and they can not find me on their computer system, both of the balances are showing as defaulted on my credit report so they need to be gone as soon as possible. I think the last time I used the Natwest account was back in 2005 but I do not know when I was handed to Trident.
Thanks0 -

In which case the debt will become statute barred very very shortly, even if it is not already SB.
When that happens, you can halt any legal action against you by telling them, it is SB.If you've have not made a mistake, you've made nothing0
