Hi all,
hope you are well.
My brother linked me to some of these group discount sites (Groupon, kgbdeals etc) and I have seen reduced IPL treatments available at massively discounted prices. for example, at the moment a company called allwhite3000 - better know apparently for teeth whitening laser treatment - is offering 6 sessions of hair reduction treatments for about £80. So two small areas (bikini line and armpits) 6 sessions each at £80 which seems ludicrous.
The thing is this company doesnt seem to care much for customer services. I have called a few times to enquire after the model of IPL system they use. No one knew or was interested in finding out the answer and simply said that I should book a consultation (£35) to ask one of the consultants.
They use a IPL system called i-light-3 or i-light-3000. I have searched for it but nothing much comes up. I eventually spoke to a rude supervisor would simply stated that i-light-3 are the manufacturer of the machine and that the company is related to allwhite3000.
So, I really dont know how to reseach this. I would love to bag a bargain. the company allwhite3000 seems quite large - they have 4 premises around london.
Does anyone have any experience with this company?
if not, does anyone know of an independent body that regulates these IPL machines on the UK market so that I can atleast find out whether its a registered product and understand the minimum requirements of this thing before I buy?
many thanks

It used to be regulated by the Healthcare Commission that morphed into the Care Quality Commission (CQC).
Since October though, 'beauty' treatments have been exempt from such regulation, and now we have an incredibly dangerous situation where this whole industry is completely unregulated. It is possible to do a lot of damage with an IPL unit if you don't know what you're doing.
BE VERY CAREFUL HOW YOU SELECT YOUR CARE PROVIDER!
I would suggest steering well clear of anybody who seems in any way dodgy and go on reputation NOT price.!How to find a dentist.
1. Get recommendations from friends/family/neighbours/etc.
2. Once you have a short-list, VISIT the practices - dont just phone. Go on the pretext of getting a Practice Leaflet.
3. Assess the helpfulness of the staff and the level of the facilities.
4. Only book initial appointment when you find a place you are happy with.0 -
This is an expose on the same people by the BBC for tooth whitening http://www.bbc.co.uk/blogs/x-ray/2010/05/teeth-whitening-booths.shtml

Awful! WHile groupon have some serious bargains on such treatments most of the companies are little known or have bad reviews. Is risking scars for like worth saving a few hundred quid?Living cheap in central London :rotfl:0

Groupon is very good, but think about it, if there's thousands of people going to the same company all at once, you are bound to get a small percentage of bad service. I mean bad service is not no service or that it will ruin your life! I once bought a hair voucher to have my hair cut, the service was really bad because they were so busy, I was not offered tea or coffee what so ever, but in the end my hair came out great. It was the best price I paid and the best cut I ever had.
so I wonder why it was the best cut, well... the lady told me she cut 20 people a day instead of her average 4-5 at other salon. Now I see that the more you do, the better experience you will get. we are all human after all.
So would you rather have good service and no result or bad service and great result? I'm afraid you can't have both. But I know what I want.
My believe is about the outcome, not the actual service when the company is too busy, give them a break as they are offering you a bargain already.
Internet reviews aren't always true, people would only come on to write a bad review about their experience to get it off their chest, Unlikely that a happy customer would write a good review. Plus the percentage of bad review compare to the genuine good review is very low to these companies. Don't believe me? try to find a review on TESCO and you will see how many bad ones there are. I'm sure you all shop there and don't see a problem.
P.S ever heard of B&W speakers? well they're much better than Sony or JVC speakers but as a brand name they are not well known to the public, B&W are 10 times more expensive and much better quality sound system than Sony. There's so many system manufacturer out there today so not everything is available in detail to the public, only the supplier would know which product or model is good as it is in their job to understand every little specification in scientific detail which most of us will never understand.0 -
I used Allwhite through Groupon for IPL. Their customer service is a joke. I have contacted them on numerous occasions about arriving for an appointment to be told the machine hadn't been working for days (no one advised me of this), booking an appointment which took 3 months to book, to arrive and be told it was only for a patch test etc etc. The company doesn't care at all about customers. I wouldn't recommend them at all!0
