Outdoor lights

This is our first christmas in a house with a garden and I would love to put some lights on one of the trees. For this reason I nagged hubby into installing an outdoor socket and then cheerfully went off light shopping. My good mood did not last long as I quickly discovered that all the outdoor lights in focus/BnQ/Wilkos and Tesco have transformers that must be kept indoors - rendering my outdoor socket redundant. Do you know if you can still buy traditional outdoor lights with a plug on the end and if so - where? I have seen weatherproof boxes that a transformer would have gone in but had already bought and fitted the sockets so am not prepared to spend on this type of solution.
I refuse to have a battle of wits with an unarmed opponent. :rotfl:

My first year in a house with a garden too and I so wanted lights in the tree!!! I got 2 sets of lights from Maplin which are solar powered. The first day they were bright as they were well charged, now they're a bit dim, but I'm hoping that by repositioning the solar panel they will get brighter. So, in summary, they're ok, but not fantastic so far.0

Could you put the transformer indoors and put a wire through the window, or if you have a front/back door which is not double glazed the wire will probably fit over the top / under the bottom.0
