I can't get into it this year either.

My partner works for an airline and is on call all over Christmas and will probably be away out of the country, or returning to sleep all of Christmas Day - this happens nearly every year and i hate it (though i have to deal with it), - we can nearly never spend Christmas together.

I have chosen to go away and visit my dad abroad for a few days which should be nice, but most of the rest of my family that i care about will be in England.

My Christmas all just feels incredibly disjointed and i can't wait for it to be over again.

  • Ok, it's just turned the 17th - Christmas is still over a week away. Why is it so obligatory for all these weeks of preparation for one day? You sound as if you're really organised, but worn out, so sit back and give yourself a treat and you might get refreshed.

By a treat I mean a couple of hours to read a book, watch a funny tv programme, catch up with a friend.

You can sling up a Christmas tree & decorations in no time at all, with a couple of drinks on Christmas eve.

Yes, it's supposed to be a 'happy time', but forced happiness doesn't count - do what you feel like, not what you think people expect.

I hope everyone has a happy and relaxed Christmas!

  • I can't be bothered either. I've done the presents but I've not even thought about food! You are very organised.
Home bargains had a black Bah humbug hat, I was tempted to get it!

Add another one to the list here! Our tree only went up last night (cats have tried to take it down overnight!) and although everything is organised its just me I think!

For me I think its the fact that Christmas stuff started appearing in November, and by the time I get to the middle of December I am thoroughly fed up with it.

If I were you -particularly as you're going away on Boxing Day, I'd keep decorations to a minimum......amazing how much a bit of greenery and a few candles will brighten a place up. Christmas is for you as well as your family.
OH slipped on the ice last Sunday and broke his hip, I suffer with back problems and if it weren't for the teenage lad we look after and OH I'd probably not bother. But between us tomorrow we'll do it..........if only to cheer OH up..............:)
    Best wishes:)

Having just finished moving my 88year old MIL to a new bungalow near us from 100 miles away [have just spent the last 3 weeks painting said bungalow] have not got either energy or time to put up our big gorgeous tree this year [it takes hours to decorate, with all the glass baubles that I have collected during the last 40 years] so instead of feeling guilty, have simply put up the small one in our front room window [takes about 1/2 hour, and is covered in little wooden toys and simple baubles]. And just our beautiful old German Black Forest Christmas pyramid [the one that revolves when the candles are lit] that the grandbabies love to bits, in the big back room, ready made wreaths on the doors and guess what it looks stylishly festive withiout being OTT. So Grumpygrandad and I have decided that big tree will now make an appearence every other year, which will make it special again.
  • Well the tree is up and the mantlepiece garland. I've decided to limit it to that this year. there is no way in creation I can get to the outdoor snowman - he's in the garage behind the barbeque, hammock, firepit and all the garden furniture so it's safer if he stays there this year i think!

I'm felling slightly less narked now - having a couple of friends in difficult circumastances at the moment has made be more grateful for what I've got.

I've decided I'm not wrapping anything either - I have a box of gift bags from Costco and mounds of tissue paper and that's how I'll deal with the gifts this year.

I'm even beyond caring about the 5 parcels that are lying in courier wearhouses goodness knows where. If it gets here this week then fine, if it doesn't then I'll just send it back.

You've all made me feel better though - at least I know I'm not alone in being a miserable cow over the whole Christmas thing:D

I wasn't at all in the mood for Xmas a few days ago. I have a pile of pressies to wrap, a house which is as far from festive looking as can be, food and drink to buy. The thought of running round like a headless chicken, so as to please family, was getting me really down. It is one day out of the whole year and we all run ourselves into the ground trying to make it far bigger and better than it ever can be. Talk about set ourselves up for a fall.

So I decided to wrap things up at work and think about it again this weekend. I am a teacher and we have now broken up for the holidays. Thank the lord for my year 3 class. The kids did their Xmas show. Watching all of them dressed up in more glitter and tinsel costumes than you can dream of, singing their hearts out was magic. Bit like taking a chill pill and now I feel ready to throw myself into it and make xmas what I want it to be. If family dont like it they can go back to their own homes and celebrate their way. Heres hoping :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:

Made an effort today and got the decorations and tree out............seemed to take me most of my time remembering where we put bits last year......most little bits go on our pine dresser.........anyway thats done now and after a battle with lights getting tangled and threatening to sling the tree out it's done..........I did get to the point where I slung the tinsel on in very random fashion but it doesn't look that bad.
Next year though I'm getting one of those trees that just plugs in and lights up !:xmastree:
