Returning Items

I'm hoping to pick your brains about a couple of things I want to return/exchange:

I bought a blu-ray player in Tesco today but have just seen on an advert for Currys they have it cheaper. Is it ok to ask Tesco for a refund with reciept even though there isn't a fault with it?

Also I want to return a top I bought in the Jane Norman section of Debenhams. I don't normally shop in JN (was an impulse buy!) Will they let me exchange for any Debs item or will it have to be JN? Can't get a refund as no reciept

If there is no fault, you have just changed your mind, then Tesco are quite within their rights to simply offer store credit/vouchers rather than a cash refund and they don't even have to offer that, all depends on the customer service in your own store really.

Your best bet is simply to ask the store in each case. Perhaps say that you bought items as Christmas gifts but now found that the person concerned already has/does not want said items. Do not be tempted to unpack blu-ray player.
