The free yeast - you just go to the fresh bakery section and ask - I haven't tried it in Tesco but in ASDA it is their policy (so not being cheeky or pushing your luck to ask), in one or two ASDAs I've seen notices up about it.

    Hi folks

I have one of these infernal machines and try as I may I cannot get the bread to come out white !

To make bread one must use strong flour but I am unable to find strong flour that is bleached like ordinary bread. The result is grey and unappetising bread.

    Any hints ?

Yesterday I went to Tesco and asked for some fresh yeast and was given about 6 ozs. My husband made a loaf in the afternoon and it turned out better than using dried yeast.
Thanks very much Amber newman for the tip.

You all talk of bread makers so it might not be the right place to put this, but if you want cheap, easy, healthy (no fat) and wonderful tasty bread, I have the best recipe.

In the early evening you take 1/2 a litre of lukewarm water, 5 g of fresh yeast, 1 1/2 level dessertspoon of salt (you heard right) and 625 g of flour, mix it all together (takes about 5 minutes), it will become a very sticky dough, you have no need to put your fingers in it. Cover the bowl with film, Now leave it on the kitchen table about 3 hours and before you go to bed put it in the fridge, In the morning you take a spoon and put about 10 big spoons of dough on the oven plate, put it in a COLD oven but set it on 225 degrees for 30 min. (fits very well with the shower and getting ready) let it cool for 5 minutes and you have the best bread rolls for mornings, lunches or as to go with dinner (if any leftovers)

I am danish so I am not sure these exact measures does it for you all, as a bit of testing might be needed to suit your oven and your taste, but they are tested on english kids and they loved them  :)

I've had a breadmaker for ages but not used it for a while. Mine always turns out tasting really "yeasty" and the kids don't like it. Anyone know what I'm doing wrong: I use dried yeast.

I was given a Breville breadmaker as a present and it makes quite decent bread but one big fault. It does not have a measuring thingy like most others, the recipes are all given in grams, so you have to weigh everything.

I phoned them and asked if they did a measuring thing and they said no and didn't intend to do one in the future. So it has hardly been used.

I have just stayed in a lovely b&b near hunstanten and the lady there bakes her own bread in a panasonic bread maker but its her own recipe. I must say it's the best bread I've ever tasted and I'm tempted to buy one for myself. Hi mo & doug u know who u r.
