The best cookie recipe

Really nice and chewy! Make sure you use brown sugar and NOT white because brown sugar is key to a chewy cookie, unless you like them really crunchy.
Also, refrigerate the dough for an hour beforehand as this prevents the cookies from spreading into one giant cookie. :rotfl:

100g/4oz butter, softened
100g/4oz Light brown sugar
1 tbsp golden syrup
150g/6oz self raising flour
50g choc chips etc

1. Preheat oven to 180c/ Gas 4.
2. Beat butter and sugar together until nice and creamy, then mix in syrup.
3. Mix in half the flour then add choc chips and rest of the flour and work the dough together with your fingers.
4. Divide into 14 balls and place them well apart on baking sheets. Do not flatten them.
5. Bake for 12 mins until golden at the edges. Cool on a wire rack.

I've used this recipe for years now and they never last long in our house (normally eaten in hours).

For a variation I add mini smarties, white choc chips, raisons and anything I can think will taste good in them.

They taste just like the fresh cookies you can buy in store. Very yummy.

I've just made these, thank you so much. I've had to try two already just to test of course.

    Great recipe, thanks.
  • Thanks, my son thinks these are fantastic.....:T I'm sure these will be a favourite from now on.
Made double, smashed up a bar of value chocolate, put half the mix in a plastic piping bag and put it in the fridge so will have a batch ready to go. Next time I might make 4 lots and freeze a couple of batches.
Paid £4 for 6 cookies at meadowhall the other day:eek: and hubby and son think these are better:D thanks again
