Where to go for summer hols on South Coast?

Lyme Regis has a mixture of sand AND pebble beaches, but the surrounding town and cliff walks are very steep - no fun with a buggy and young children. I think the 2nd week in Augus is Regatta week, so accommodation may be scarce. We always used to take our children to Exmouth... miles of sandy beaches! Charmouth and Lyme are great for a day out fossil-hunting though. If the beach gets too boring you can head inland to explore Dartmoor.

I love Dorset too but as others have said the Olympics is is in Weymouth this year so might not be a good idea. We usually camp at Weymouth too so I don't know about hotels I'm afraid. Lyme Regis looked lovely when we drove through it but weren't able to stop.

Hi Gav, Congrats on the babyxx. Why not come to the Isle of Wight, it is fantastic here for families, very safe, lots of things to do, very reasonable, depending on when you come there are lots of events and family related things to do. Cowes is great right by the sea, sandown and Shanklin are very pretty too. Ryde is a bit more of a town but being an island if you have a car it doesnt matter it is only 36k by 26 so no where is far. Also it is the warmest place in the UK so if its going to be sunny then here is the place to be.
