Kenwood Chef Alternatives

Options
Hi,

I just wanted to know if there were any worthwhile alternative to a kenwood chef available in the UK. I know there are some great models available in the US but I can't find any in the UK.

Thanks in advance!

  • What do you want to do? Your previous posts indicate you're looking for something to do lots of chopping and slicing in which case a food processor might be better, perhaps with a handmixer as well if you do less mixing?

The straight alternative would be a Kitchen Aid Artisan, similar to the Kenwood Chef and you can also add attachments to do slicing and mincing etc.

These are brilliant, whisk, blend, chop don't take up too much room, a few extra's and 600 watt motor. I've got one, it's excellent.

If you're quick you can get £15.00 off and get it for £23.99.

  • I am looking to acomplish all the functions of a kenwood chef, including whisking, beating, kneading and some chopping and blending. I might even fancy using some of the more obscure attachments like the mincer or juicer.
  • Why don't you want a Kenwood?

  • I think that a kenwood chef is quite expensive, as are all the attachments for one.

Noting obscure about the mincer! I suspect it's a very popular attachment.

If you want to do everything that a chef does, then you'll need a Chef or Kitchen Aid. I'm not sure that there is another alternative.

The cheaper option might be a hand mixer and a food processor but that won't give you the ability to add extras.

  • OK then, I will probably get a Kenwood when i have assembled the money as it seems like it is the only real option for what i want to do.

    Thanks for your help.

I have a Kenwood that I use for the mixing, breadmaking stuff and a separate Magimix food processor that I use for the chopping, slicing, blending etc.

The Magimix won't do the job of the Kenwood Chef for stuff like cake making and the Chef (IMO) is not as good as the Magimix for the other stuff. On my old Chef I did have some of the attachments e.g. blender but not as good as the Magimix.

You might like to look at a cheaper hand mixer (small Kenwood for instance) and an up to the job food processor.

Really depends on what you are going to be using them for. Fab juicer on the magi by the way - and they often have offers on that will give you free discs and attachments (which is how I got my juicer)! The magi is also brilliant for chopping meat.

As a result of reading this forum I too had been 'saving up' for a new Kenwood Chef. Instead I have just bought an extremely shiny and retrotastic refurbished A901 on eBay, with a liquidiser, dough hook and mincer, for just a tad over £100. It arrived today and is *lovely*. And I speak as a very committed hand blender user; somehow I had never realised that if you have a stand mixer you can just leave it mixing while you get on with the next bit.
