Credit Reports - what do they mean?

I've just downloaded my credit report from Experian (30 day free trial but paid 4.99 to see my "credit score" :(

There were a couple of things from years ago that I'd forgotten about :o but only a few hundred pounds. My credit score came out as "fair" which I was amazed about! I am even more confused now about why I was turned down for a basic bank account (I'm moaning about that on another thread :o - sorry I'm getting sick of myself so god knows how you all feel :rotfl: )

Anyway - any ideas about what this all means? Would it help if I paid off some of the old (small) debts in one go?

Thanks for everyone's help

R :)
