Coat alteration

Options
I bought a lined wool/cashmere coat on ebay for pittance, but it completely swaps me - i'd say it was one, maybe two sizes too big. The thing is, I love the style & was wondering how much it would cost me to take it in.

I've called a few places but none of them will give me even a ballpark figure: though I understand that it's very hard to give an estimate without seeing it I just want a very rough idea - if it's going to cost me £100 for example I probably won't.

Any ideas?

Many thanks!

As the dressmakers have said, it's impossible to say without seeing the coat. A fitted coat with princess seaming for example would be almost impossible to size down nicely without taking the entire coat apart and re-making it, which would take several hours and be really expensive. Even just taking up the hem of a wool coat (plus lining and adjusting any kick pleats) would easily take a couple of hours and would probably set you back £20-£25.

without seeing you in the coat - its really hard to say! but, as a petite person i can tell you that the sleeve length is one dead giveaway that the coat is too big! try turning the cuffs up
into the sleeves until they are just past the wrist bone and look in the mirror - does the coat look better now? it shouldnt cost too much to have the sleeves shortened! if its across the shoulder then the coat will cost a LOT to have refitted - it would have to be taken apart! IF it has shoulder pads however then removing them often makes the coat drape more naturally to fit! that can be done fairly easily! the addition of a belt can help the fit too! and luckily a leather belt on a cashmere coat never goes out of style!
If none of this helps then I think perhaps you should sell it on and hope to get one which fits!
