Consumer Help Required ... I Need Your Thoughts on On-line Grocery Shopping

I internet shop for pretty much everything except my groceries. I like to make sure my fresh food has a good date on it, my meat is not all fatty and my fruit and veg is not bruised. Also when i had my money over at the till i know this is all i have to pay, when you grocery shop over the internet your bill may be slightly higher (or lower) due to the size of the joint of meat or substitutes they have provided.be who you are and say what you feel.

I wonder if I could I make a comment from the point of view of someone who prefers to shop in store? My local Sainsburys has aisles which are quite narrow and there is often congestion due to order pickers and their huge trolleys. I know I get irritated when I can't get round them, so I'm sure the staff must feel the same way about shoppers getting under their feet. Yet I've never come across staff making up orders in Tesco, have I just been lucky or do they have a different system? (I know that Waitrose has a sort of central distribution point). It would be interesting to hear from the staff who go round making up the orders, it can't be easy for them when the stores are full of shoppers.
Sorry if this is slightly off topic but I do feel it could be relevant to the research.0 -
These are my reasons for grocery on line shopping which I have been doing since April this year and I use Tesco. It did take a few weeks to really get into the swing of it but I really wouldn't have it any other way.
I set a reminder on my phone every Wedensday at 8.30am to do my online shop and promptly book my delivery slot for a Friday between 3pm and 5pm - sometimes I will only put in a couple of items to reserve the slot and then go back later to finish once I've worked out the menu.- Health - although not disabled I really struggle to do 1 - 2 hours in the supermarket
- Budgeting - We have reduced our grocery spend by £50 per week by menu planning and sticking to our budget and we still eat a very healthy homecooked diet with absolutely no waste. Also it's very difficult to put things back on the shelves if you find you've spent too much when you get to the checkout - whereas I can double check my cupboards if I've gone over and cut a few things out. Also there are no impulse buys.
- Both my husband and I dislike shopping immensley and used to get really annoyed with the home delivery "pickers" when we were trying to do our shop - so it's pay back time

- Substitutes have always been very very good
- I can add to my list if I forget something up to 4.00am on the day of delivery.
- Delivery Drivers are always courteous and helpful
- It takes me approximately 45 minutes to place my order and 10 minutes to pack it away as opposed to 2-3 hours driving and shopping
- If it's raining I don't get wet !!

It could be that the Tesco you shop in is not the Tesco that is used for home shopping deliveries for that locality whereas the Sainsburys is.
I would add another advantage is that you can ammend an order any number of times, and I often do, if you decide to before delivery. So if you for instance are having guests round the next day you can add goods to your delivery for the next day etc.0 -
Used on line shopping only a couple of times because they were giving away loads of bonus clubcard points. Everytime had to phone up because was overcharged. By the time messed about on the computer lookiing for stuff, waited in for the delivery & paid for the delivery far cheaper & quicker just to go to Tesco's0

We use Asda about once every 6 weeks for bulky items. We also use ocado about once a month - when you don't use them for a while they email you a 15% off voucher - and if you book a late night delivery it is often free - so works out well and nice to have a change of groceries. I also shop in supermarkets - I think the marketing term is a "promiscuous shopper"...0

Hi again,
I would just like to thank everyone again for posting on this forum. I really appreciate your views, and I wonder if you would be so kind as to completing my questionnaire, which has been created around the results of this forum. It should only take about 5 minutes to complete and can be found at the following:

Thank you all so much again,

Since moving I have used it for buying large and bulky things as I do my normal shopping on-foot, living close to a largw store.
Sunday afternoon is my time, so I can get some fresh stuff for start of working week without having to go to the store SUnday afternoon.
Invaluable when I was ill for weeks a few years ago.
I tend to spend more though - esp on offer items - to make it worth the delivery fee!
Really convenient but I also like being in store and controlling my day-to-day purchasing.0 -
Ooops. Just seen that I'm too late! Just done your survey though!0
