My friend has just lost half a tooth. She receives DLA and Incapacity Benefits however she isn't entitled to free dental care so she doesn't know what to do. She has nobody to borrow from nor has any credit cards. I have tried googling for information with no luck, I don't know what to suggest to her.....
She isn't even registered with a NHS dentist and is worried that if she does go they will want to take xrays and prescribe other treatments which she cant afford. This has happened at a really awful time.....
Whats your opinions?
TIA

Some hospitals do free emergency dental treatments. My local hospital charges but only about £12 I think.0

Fill out a HC1 form to get a HC2 certificate, i'll get you the number in a minute.
I am on incap and dla also and am entitled to free prescriptions/dental treatment/glasses etc etc with this.Lost lbs =

I can fully sympathise....had to have a root canal at the beginning of the year.
There isn't much I can suggest I'm afraid...however, I chatted to the practice manager when this happened, and explained my situation (skint, no ccs etc) and they were perfectly happy to do the treatment 'on account' (as in 0% intrest, on their own books type thing). Maybe you'll be able to do the same.....
Good luck, and chin up chuck x:cool: Proud DFW Nerd 135 :cool:Sealed Pot Challenge - 0190 -
grown_up_girlie, sorry I can't be of much help, just wanted to let you know I sympathise, I really do. We don't get any benefits and OH had a filling fall out the other week... tried to find an NHS dentist... :rotfl:
Eventually went private, had numerous x-rays and about 4 fillings in all.
Credit card got hit for....
£320
We didn't know anything about emergency hospital dental treatment, wish we had!!!
Good luck, I hope you get it sorted soon xxFFW: Weight 06/01/07 11 st 6lbs 01/02/09 - 9st 6 lb
How do you pick up the threads of an old life? How do you go on... when in your heart, you begin to understand. There is no going back. There are some things that time cannot mend... some hurts that go too deep. That have taken hold.0 -

I went to emergency dentist at local hospital (been up all night swishin cold water round me gob in agony). £15.50 up front...suppose means you sit there, and don't do a runner lol.
It is only emergency treatment though...a filling is band 2 on NHS charges, and therefore in the £40 bracket (£42.40 or something odd). I doubt they'd do a filling...I got tooth drilled, filled with ledermix, and temporarily filled and told to go to the dentist.... Proud DFW Nerd 135 :cool:Sealed Pot Challenge - 0190 -

PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE don't do that. PLEASE!
That's what I did. And ended up with a root canal. I trapped something in there (because theres no way to guarentee it's completely clean), and it got infected, and cos I'd 'plugged' it up, it just got worse.
Please don't.....it really hurts

I am so worried though as this tooth made me so very ill a few years ago, it got so so bad I cannot even begin to explain the pain, lets say I didnt sleep for a week and had so much water in my mouth to ease the pain that I ended up going green faced and water went everywhere - my friend nearly called an ambulance (May be worth mentioning I did go to the dentist 3 times that week and they didnt sort it out hence why I hate them)! Not nice I know, hence why I am so scared this will happen again! I'm sure I will live to tell the tale though, lol!
You know whats so funny is that I love all you peeps so much now that as soon as something happens I am straight on here for your excellent advice!
Good ol MSE'ers. :iloveyou:
One of these days...I'll write a complete post with everything I want to say....
This really does sound like you need a root canal on the tooth, you may have pulpitis (sp) or an infection in the roots (where is Toothsmith when you need him!?!?!?
). swishing water (it had to be really cold, am I right!?!) round your mouth is a classic sign. Tell the dentist this.
Oh and check your PM box x:cool: Proud DFW Nerd 135 :cool:Sealed Pot Challenge - 0190
