wedding ceremony venue

hello :-)

just wondering if anyone had any recommendations of a place to get married in the greater belfast/lisburn/co down(carryduff, comber etc) areas?

we want a non religious ceremony and dont want to have it in a registry office/lisburn civic centre type place.

one place i do want to look at is belfast castle. this is just for the ceremony - we want to have the reception in a separate location(yet to be decided!)

any ideas appreciated

thanks

If you were willing to travel to Bangor you can get married in the Old Inn Crawfordsburn. We had our reception there and it was fantastic.

We got married in Kiltonga Hall . We orginially looked at Belfast Castle, Malone House, Belfast City Hall. belfast Castle and malone house we found the times that your ceremony has to be at wasn't what we wanted - 12pm if you aren't having your reception there which makes a long day for all at the wedding. Belfast City Hall we found that they were very strict with rules and it felt like it wasn't right for us. Kiltonga Hall we had our Ceremony at 2.30pm and we could speak highly enough of the Register from Ards council for letting us make the ceremony personal and just being generally accomodating. The older members of families were a bit off because we choose to have a non religous wedding but they still now talk about how lovely our ceremony was (I do think people just say this to the couple tho :rotfl:).

what ever decide on have a wonderful day.

There's a short list (but getting longer) of places that can do this in each council area, and you can check with the councils who has a licence. Ulster Museum got one this year and is a great venue.
  • I would second Kiltonga Hall. Got married there last year, registrar was lovely and couldnt have been more helpfull. As MYPIE said some of my family were abit annoyed that i wasnt having a church wedding but Kiltonga Hall is so beautiful and very intimate that they are still talking about how lovely the service was.

We had our ceremony at Belfast Castle and I have to say it was fantastic but the highlight was the photos we got took - the gardens looked spectacular and that was in March

  • i viewed the city hall, but the room just wasnt big enough. i plan to view malone house and the merchant for the ceremony before I think about the reception.

its such a big decision, plus I think a lot of people will be put off if there is a lot of travelling involved!

thanks for all the opinions so far x
