Sorry, this may not belong here. Advice?

As title I'm uncertain where to ask this question as there are so many MSE forums and sub-forums.
Advice needed please. Even if it's to point me in the direction of the correct place to post.

The shortish story is:
I run a small business and about 6 weeks ago we took delivery of a vehicle that had been specially adapted for the work we do. The delivery was about three weeks late. Comms with the modifying company were awful. Myself and other members of staff had to call and travel on numerous times to get a projected delivery date.
The vehicle was eventually delivered to us with many faults and in a condition nowhere near the specifications in the written contract so we drove it back up requesting it be put right.
When it came back to us "now as per drawings/contract" I still had to buy equipment that should have been fitted in the vehicle and pay other contractors to put it right and get it as per initial drawings/contract.
A couple of weeks back the vehicle was finally ready to go to work.
Since taking delivery of the vehicle the modifying company has filed for insolvency and KPMG have been appointed and have requested payment of their invoice.
Our actual costs incurred amount to slightly over £2000 (20% of invoice total) which I had planned to discuss with the company with a view to getting all or some of it off our invoice.
KPMG have offered us a derisory £200 after we've emailed them the details.

Can anyone tell me. Can we "deal" with these people generally or are we stuck having to pay the amount they're requesting. We have proof of the incurred costs which they have seen and this is our first instance of communication of any sort with them. Is there anywhere to go from here? Can I try and negotiate a further discount with KPMG? I'm sure I would've been able to negotiate more than £200 from the invoice had I been able to deal direct with the company.
