vat rise

hi all,
I am with 3 and have a mobile dongle with laptop for £30p/m for 24 months. I received a letter from them telling me that this price will rise in the new year because of vat and again for inflation. are they allowed to do this as a contract was signed? is there a loophole for them to sneak through?

VAT is a separate charge, which is included in the quoted price. If you actually look at the bill you will see it lists the contract charge and then the VAT is added on top. They are allowed to do this as they do not set the rate of VAT, this applies to any other contracts for services that you may have as well.

Not sure what you mean about the rise for inflation - are they saying that they're going to put up the contract charge as well?

I think that they can increase prices to take into account the increased vat, and I think that most firms will take the opportunity to sneak a bit extra and hope the blame will fall on the Vat.

I think the extra 2.5% on £30 per month will be the least of your worries.........
