PPI & Temporary Workers
After reading a thread (on here I think!) about Barclays PPI not covering temporary workers, I decided to challenge Baclays as my husband has the cover and was in temporary employment. Off we trundelled to the bank and after a lot of tooing and froing between the Branch Manager and a Personal Advisor was informed that no it does not cover temporary workers.
Long story short, we make a complaint, received a phone call about 2 hours later saying that it would have to be investigated but it did infact cover for death (expensive life cover!) then receive a letter today from Barclays saying that a woman (the one dealing with the complaint) has spoken to Dublin and have informed her that they do infact cover temporary workers.
Who do we believe, the branch, the phone or the letter!

At the end of the day you have it in writting to state that it does cover temporary workers.
In general terms it normally not a black and white situation... if you have been doing your job on a temporary contract over a certain length of time and at the time of taking out the cover had no reason to suspect it would be ending then many PPI policies will cover you. I have never heard of one that will cover you if your employement at the time of taking the policy out was just doing Xmas cover in a shop.
Personally I would read the T&Cs of the policy - if it says you wont be covered then query the difference with the letter. If you interprit the policy as saying you are covered (eg the temp job has been long enough) then I would keep the letter along with the policy in case of arguements but leave it at that. All posts made are simply my own opinions and are neither professional advice nor the opinions of my employers

we don't have it in writing, we have requested it though!
in the T&C's it says people in fixed term contracts, permanently employed or self-employed thats all.
my husband has just got off the phone to Barclays and they said that the branch and the woman on the previous call were incorrect and that they have certain circumstances where people are covered.
we'll have to wait and see i guess.
