Share certificates

I have shares in a company that is involved in a takeover bid but I have mislaid my share certificate. The registrars wish to charge for a replacement.
If I don’t sell before the deadline and the offer then becomes unconditional, will the company simply buy my shares (and send me a cheque) without requesting the share certificate?

On your 2nd para - I think you have that right. On the first part of your question - is it that you have simply asked for a replacement?

For (the few) shares I hold. They are all registered electronically with the Registrar - and I can sell them without the carefully hoarded Certificates. And a good job too - as several years of scrip dividends means there are innumerable Certificates for small numbers of shares.

If you're really wanting to sell before the deadline - worth seeing if the Registrar offers a direct facility. Possibly fractionally more expensive fees - but overall cheaper than a replacement Certificate + the higher costs of then selling paper as opposed to electronic?
If you want to test the depth of the water .........don't use both feet !
