How to deal with Bankruptcy

Hi, I have just started filling in the forms for bankruptcy and still feel pretty gutted that it has come to this, but i truerly believe it is the only way forward. Can someone give me advice about doing it yourself and what I'm expected when I go to court, the debt is mostly personal but does include a ltd business. Hope you can help...:(

    hi there and welcome
it is a scary feeling when it first sinks in, but it will get better and we're here to listen.

firstly, are you sure this is the right way to go for you? if you have not already done so, you will need to take appropriate advice, try one of the free debt charities. i notice you have business debts, best to try the business debtline:

have a read of this sticky, plenty of valuable information:

you would need to check with your local court whether you need an appointment or if you just turn up on the day etc. then you would turn up with your completed forms and the fee in cash (details in the thread above)

if you have any other questions, please ask!

If bankruptcy is your only option it's not an option that has to be feared. The process is so simple in theory but you, yourself will give yourself a hard time.

you can do all of the form filling and court arranging yourself. There are a lot of people on this forum that can help you every step of the way but make sure you get that professional advice though, a judge won't grant your bankruptcy order if s/he doesn't feel you had the relevant advice.

  • Hi and welcome :)
Please DO make sure you have taken advice as other posters have suggested. They are very very helpful and will assist you every step of the way, as we all will on here:) ask anything!!
I was terrified and alone going through my B/R, but the good people on here helped me as did an advisor from Citizens Advice. I was overwhelmed by everything and felt I had let myself and my family down.
I wished I had the courage to do it sooner rather than struggling on for years at the cost to my health (working 80+ hrs a week!!)
You havent committed murder, try not to be too hard on yourself and keep posting we will help with form filling etc and support you all the way.
    Take care
