Da Vinci Code Discovered

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-europe-11936080

A coded manuscript by Leonardo da Vinci has been discovered in a public library in the French city of Nantes.

The text is written from right to left in Leonardo's trademark mirror-writing and has yet to be deciphered
.

I wonder what Asheron would make of this.

He'll be back from school soon, so we will wait and see.

Why is it that the only things I ever discover in my library are empty crisp packets and the random ramblings of people who are ever so slightly bonkers?

Our library's listed as possibly closing. As are many in my county.

Figures being chucked around are to leave 9 out of the 32 across the county... and close the rest.

I think it is terribly sad that libraries are closing. I look around the one that I work in (as opposed to owning :p) and think how:

    * Without it the homeless would die. In this cold weather the number of homeless we have in has increased exponentially. You may recall last winter one of the visitors to our library died from exposure to the cold rough sleeping, which upset me deeply.

    * Without libraries children have less exposure to the world of learning, particularly those from disadvantaged homes, or from families that don't value books.

    * Without libraries the digital divide would be wider still. The reality is for the very poorest, a broadband contract is not an option, not just because of the cost of the contract, but also the equipment.

    * In my library I meet people of all cultures and creeds and it is a site of tolerance. People who are new to the UK can learn english so that they can integrate better; young people who discover that they are gay can learn more about their feelings and realise they are not alone. People who are lonely can join book clubs and meet new friends. New mums and dads can meet other people in the same situation as them while their babies learn to listen to sounds and recognise them.

It is a shame that people don't value libraries more. Over time, for sure more and more elements of the service will be virtual, but so much of the value to the public is just in being there. Too many councils need to realise what they have before its too late.

  • Libraries along with Pubs and Post offices are where people meet and chat, to see more and more of them shutting is sad.People are losing the ability to interact with each other.Where else apart from internet forums can people talk about the important issues of the day?.

Sad day for Society in general.................

Its probably his shopping list, or maybe his laundry? I think Asheron is too busy reading wikileaks to post on here at the moment.
Please remember other opinions are available.
