How much is it worth?

This is for my Statement of Affairs Form in Bankruptcy - I haven't got a clue.

Bought laptop computer in June 04 costing £1500

so it is now nearly 2 1/2 years old.

What do I put for its current value? I looked on Ebay and second-hand laptops of only a year old are barely fetching £100.

My settlement figure on the account is still just over £1000, because it also had £500 for a 4 year cover on top.

What do I put on the form for value?

I don't think a £1½K laptop would drop in value that harshly in just over 2 years. Depending on the spec, maybe £150 to £200.
Unfortunately for you, laptops have dropped in price dramatically in the last couple of years.

I don't know if it's the done thing, but if you're planning on selling it, give me shout.

  • The trouble is that something is only worth what some idiot is willing to pay for it!!

If I were to go out now and price the laptop that I have quoted - I think they are going for around £600. If I was wanting to buy one second-hand, I wouldn't bother spending £200 on one that was 2 1/2 years old!

I will list it as £150 on the form.

You can, in business, write off the value of a computer in 12 months, instead of the previous 4 year rule. This was brought in, by the government, to take into account the massive depreciation in value of PCs and Laptops, which, these days, are often technically obsolete the day after you buy them.
I would suggest that you do not include it as an item of value.

If any of my experiences, or the knowledge that I have gained from those experiences, can help anyone who finds themselves in similar circumstances, then my experiences have not been in vain.
