HiJust been on their site but no prices given. But they are very green by the sounds of it. How much do you think their 500 stove would be now? Within a hundred pounds,
Just Googled ..... 'clearview 500 prices' .... On first page returned ..
Review here .... http://www.whatstove.co.uk/clearview-stoves/clearview-vision-500-stove.html
First site returned with prices here .... http://www.kindlestoves.co.uk/products.php?cat=10 .... you should have a more local dealer/installer.
Mine's the Vision 500 with low canopy ...... 8kW easily heats my main room (approx 8m x 7m) ... the burner is only ticking over and it's 25C in here at the moment, so I've just opened the doors to let the heat drift around the rest of the house because that's too warm for me ...
I suggest that if you're really interested you take a day-trip up to Ludlow to have a look at their showrooms (next to the castle), it's a really nice setup and they have all their models on working display, with examples of each in different colours .... I bought mine about 16/17 years ago from their old showroom before they moved. Don't forget that Ludlow is a fine old town and well worth a wander around ...it's also probably one of the best places to eat good food in the country, so don't expect to visit the showroom and then drive straight home ..... before you ask, no I don't, I'm about 30 miles away

You sure you're not a Clearview salesman:rotfl:
At the risk of sounding like Toad of Toad Hall I'm now onto a new passion - the solid fuel burner. The Vermont Castings Aspen II multifuel looks good too.0 -

I'm sure .... But I do love my burner ...
The only thing you really need to look into before you go any further is the cost of fuel in your area .... I doubt that you'll be able to get a muddy tractor down many roads in London, so I guess that logs would be both a little more expensive and a little less 'green' where you are ... also, do you have room to have about two or three tonnes of logs tipped at a time ?

I see what you mean. We're on the borders of Hertfordshire with farms nearby even! No tractor thoroughfares though. But there is a coal/smokeless fuel delivery which I used for an open fire in our previous much larger house which is round the corner. This is a much smaller house and there is space for log storage to the side of the house - not sure if 3 tons would fit in though but then again from the heating angle its a much smaller house and the stove wouldn't be used for heating the whole house or water heating.0 -

If you go down this route, as a simple rule of thumb ....
Ensure you buy seasoned wood ... at least one year, preferably two.
1kg seasoned wood ~4kWh potential (remember burn efficiency on this)
1m3 of wood typically weighs around ~600kg-700kg (depending on wood type/mix)
1m3 of wood will neatly stack into ~1.1m3 or in a pile ~1.2/1.3m3.
If you use the stove output & efficiency figures with the estimated number of burn hours/week, you can calculate roughly how much space you'll need for storage and how frequent your deliveries need to be.
I don't know what supply is like in your area, but if there's a cold snap the suppliers tend to run out/short of well seasoned logs, so it's probably better to ensure that you can store a reasonable amount .... don't attempt to burn unseasoned wood, it uses most of the energy it contains to dry itself out and delivers very little heat !!

Some of the places that do 'logs' out of sawdust are very reasonable too and you don't have to worry about the wood being seasoned properly.
If you Google sawdust logs or wood briquettes you'll see many sites such as this http://www.burningblocks.co.uk/
oir you may find something even more local.0 -
            Hi
Well, it was down to -20C here last night, -18C through the morning, -15C at lunchtime, hit a high of -8C at around 15:00 and is now falling rapidly ... lat time I looked it was heading south of -14C, so I guess that tonight will be just as bad.
Wonder what the COP of an ASHP would have been today ??? ...... there's been between a 30C & 40C difference between inside/outdoor temperatures all day, so I'd guess a day with a COP close to 1 for any ASHP owners, which would have cost me about £15 more in fuel than the gas/logs which I am using .....
Caveat emptor ....

I've seen them, they look like a great idea until you consider the price and the energy which goes into production and delivery (not particularly green).
If you want to have the occasional 'show fire' they could be a reasonable option, but even buying in at pallet load prices you might as well have an electric fire going, it would be cheaper .......
