What jobs we can & can't do?

Hi,
I'm thinking of applying for a job as a Parish Clerk & Responsible Finance Officer (RFO) - don't laugh :rotfl:
Seriously, I am discharged, can I apply for this or not? It's an admin job but looking over the finances - not doing accounts etc.

Hi Miss Spooky
Honestly I'm not sure of the answer though I guess the fact you will undergo a credit check by the Councils bank may be a stumbling block.
Generally if you are the RFO you will be doing the accounts, if the Council is employing someone else to do the accounts it is possible for them to be the RFO which could be the answer if your financial history is an issue.
I would contact The Society of Local Council Clerks for a definitive answer.
It is a fab job, no two days are ever the same. Let me know if I can answer any other question about the role.

Hi Lobby - Lou,
Thanks for your answer. The position came up recently, I've only just seen it but it does sound really interesting.
I've no exp in Government etc, but am prepared to do the training they offer. It does sound a great job, so fingers crossed.
I'll give the Society of Local Council Clerks a ring and see what they say.
Many thanks again.BSC 289A life lived in fear is a life not living!Proud to have dealt with my debts.0 -

Hi,
Had a read through, quite funny in a sense.
I'm thinking of applying, but should I say anything up front or wait until I'm asked. The only questions or concern on the app is regarding driving offences. Nothing about finances considering it's a Clerk & RFO. Job Des doesn't say much either.BSC 289A life lived in fear is a life not living!Proud to have dealt with my debts.0 -
I believe that if you are discharged, then you are free to apply for any position, unless you are subject to a Bankruptcy Restrictions Undertaking/Order.0

Miss Spooky,
I would honestly wait until they ask you (as I doubt they will!).
Other than the very large town councils (and indeed some of them) it is a fairly ramshackle form of employment - many Clerks don't even have a contract!
Don't get me wrong I love my job but if you get the position make sure the council pay for you to join The Society of Local Council Clerks and for you to do some training.
Good Luck

P.S. As I'm assuming you've got experience of budgeting and being imaginative with finding cheap solutions I would imagine you'd be perfect for the job.0 -
Why? I was sure you could be a school governor even if BR?Tupperware_Queen wrote: »I had to resign as school governor...I was chair of the finance committee pmsl!!!0
