HELP Im faced with a huge tax bill i shouldnt have

I started a business with my ex partner a few years back... the relationship broke down and they agreed to take over..they told me my name had been taken off the busines so i wa happy , but as it turns out they didnt pay the hrmc for a year then declared banruptcy and never took my name off the papers.. now im faced with a huge sum that i dont have and no idea what to do... help

    Do you have any written evidence to support your claim that the partnership ended some time ago. Was there a written partnership agreement. Were the accounts drawn up by an accountant. If so were they sent to you for approval.
    During the partnership, did you have authority to sign cheques on the business bank account? When did you ( or anyone else) notify the bank you were no longer a partner. What entries did you make on your tax return? If you have not got copies, ask HMRC for them.
    Not sure what you mean when you refer to partners.
