Wedding and Engagement Ring Dilemma!

Hi all,

I was just wondering how many peoples wedding ring sits completley flush to their engagement ring. If I bought a normal round band there would be a small gap between the two.
I have had a look at shaped rings, but I think I would want a small but taken out, rather that it shaped, and this of course costs a small fortune (one particular shop wanted an extra £1500 on top of the ring price to make it fit round my ring )

So I was then thinking that I might have to put up with the small gap.
Has anyone seen any good quality bargin platnum wedding rings on their travels??

Thanks everyone

Hi, i would have a shop around small local working jewellers- I have had mine made with a small notch out of it to fit flush with my ring. It cost £280 (18ct white gold though, not platinum) but that was because I haggled 20% discount off. HTH :)

I was going to have a ring to fit round mine but it would have looked too strange on it's own...

When you say shaped do you mean the wishbone rings?-Is that what you've tried?

It wouldnt be a wishbone ring, my engagement ring is more rectangular shape, and therefore would just want a bit taken out of the ring, rather than the ring to be shaped iykwim.

I am going to talk to some local jewellers, see if they can do anything. I was going to get white gold, but them ive seen a few people say that the platinum of my engagement ring would rub against the white gold. Is this right??

you are correct in your thinking thats its not always wise to mix metals platinum is a fairly hard and robust metal and will over time cause damage to a white gold band....the white gold may need replating at regular intervals and overtime if its not replated then it can appear tarnished...wearing a platinum ring next to it will cause the edges to wear....you especially need to consider the metal you have your wedding ring out of if you intend to constantly wear your engagement ring next to it.

Have you looked at wedding rings direct? They've got pages of shaped rings with different patterns cut out. You can order samples too so you know what fits and once you've returned them you get 5% off your order. That's where I got my ring.

I'd definitely recommend going to some independent jewellers to see what they can do. I got my wishbone ring made in 18ct white gold for £280, as opposed to the £900 the jewellers where my engagement ring came from wanted!

One of our local jewellers specialises in wedding rings and had a much larger selection of shaped rings than any I saw online or in the big shops.

I didn't like the look of wishbone rings at all and now have got a narrow band which is straight on one side and has a small cutout that fits around my three-stone engagement ring on the other side. They could order them in various metals and there was a price difference between a straight ring and a shaped ring but it wasn't huge.
