Tax Underpayment from HMRC. Could it be related to Nil Tax code during BR?

Hi
My husband has just received a P800 Tax calculation from HMRC through the post, which states he has underpaid tax for tax year 2009-2010 and owes them £746. They say they will collect the underpayment from April 2011 through his tax code over 12 months.
We went BR in August 2009 and he paid a Nil Tax IPA for 3 months Jan/Feb/March 2010, which roughly equals the amount above.
Could this calculation be wrong and related to the fact he paid the Nil tax IPA? Or could it be a totally separate matter?
As far as we know he has always been on the correct tax code and it just seems like too much of a coincidence? Help please

Sounds as if HMRC have sent a few of these out in error.

The same thing has happened to us = they appear to be claiming back the 0 rated br tax code for the year of our br 2008/09? So it sounds like something stinks at the HMRC

Thanks for replies
My husband rang the tax office earlier to query it, but unfortunately the guy he got through too couldn't help him ! and needs to refer him to another team, who will get back to him shortly!
Will let you alll know what the outcome is.
Now - his tax code definitely returned to normal in April 2010. It was only Nil for Jan/Feb/Mar when he paid the nil tax IPA to Moonbeever.0 -
Are you sure its not one of the 6 million general underpayments that are being sent out (remember the big F**K up) and nothing to do with the NT code, if so the debt would still be covered by the bankruptcyHi, im Debtinfo, i am an ex insolvency examiner and over the years have personally dealt with thousands of bankruptcy cases.
