Import tax, duties and vat on fabric from India

Hi,
I'm doing some textile design and wondered what the implications of importing some fabrics from India to the UK would be. (rolls of fabric)
I can buy the fabric I want fairly inexpensively, but I'm not sure whether import duties, customs fees, and VAT would price the whole thing out of my range. The value of the fabric is around £400.
Has anyone any experience of this, and if so, can you help with some advice?

Can you get to a town that has a big Asian-origin population? There should be some good fabric shops in the community and you might be able to buy what you need there.0
