Laptop Mouse Lag Problem: What's The Cause?

My laptop's built-in mouse pointer has suddenly developed a most annoying problem, the cause of which I just cannot fathom: the cursor suddenly freezes for about thirty seconds and displays a small round circle with a line going through its interior.

What do you think has caused this? Is it spyware, a device driver problem, or what?

Please help, as I hate it when my cursor suddenly freezes on a web page and I have to wait for nearly a minute before I can movie it again.

Thanks.

Do you play games on your computer? I think this is a gamer problem.

I don't know if there is a permenant fix to this other than re-installing Windows, which I wouldn't advise because it will probably happen again; but press 'start' > go in 'control panel' > then 'hardware' > then 'mouse' > then 'pointer options' and set 'pointer trails' to yes. This might help but I don't think it will fully prevent it from happening again.

Can you post a picture of what the cursor looks like when frozen, it sounds unfamiliar so may help diagnosis.

That said, for most conditions,a good reinstall is the best treatment!

Thanks. Have tried switching the Display Pointer Trails on, and hope that this will rectify the problem.

Download MALWAREBYTES (Make sure you click 'DOWNLOAD LATEST VERSION')
    http://www.filehippo.com/download_malwarebytes_anti_malware/
Open malwarebytes and goto UPDATE and click 'check for updates'. After its updated goto SCANNER and click PERFORM QUICK SCAN then click SCAN
Remove everything thats found (needs to be ticked)
Post the COMPLETE log here AFTER youve deleted everything it finds
If anything was found then do the exact same but run a FULL scan

    reboot

Download HIJACK THIS (Make sure you click 'DOWNLOAD LATEST VERSION')
    http://www.filehippo.com/download_hijackthis/
Click MAIN MENU then DO A SYSTEM SCAN AND SAVE A LOGFILE(Takes seconds) then post the log so we can see whats running
(do NOT do anything else with Hijack but scan and post the FULL log)
If you get a message that you cant write to the hosts file then Press the SHIFT key, and whilst holding it RIGHT CLICK and select RUN AS (admin)
