I'm always suspicious of people that sign up and make one post that is in support of a particular company.

My thought exactly... although you can't blame them for trying ;)

I have contacted https://www.moneybackmortgages.com and even though they were very helpful and fast in their communication we won't be using them for the simple reason - they don't deal with the lender we have chosen in the end. Saying that, if they did I think I would have been tempted... but would triple check everything with the lender directly before proceeding.

Maybe I'm in the minority having posted a lot more than other supporters of MBM but I have no axe to grind. I am hard to please though just like Victor Meldrew, but I found their approach totally professional.
I will give them first refusal the next time I or my family need a mortgage.

Your post count does suggest you are more credible. However, what made you drag up a thread that hasnt been added to for over 12 months. Especially when you yourself have only made 4 posts in that time, two of which on this thread.

  • I've recently moved into a new house, so have spent the last 6 or so months looking into mortgage rates to keep the cost of housebuying as low as possible. After lots of research, I knew which mortgage I wanted to go with, so when I read about Money Back Mortgages on MSE, I thought it was worth a go.

I wanted to wait until the whole process with Money Back Mortgages was finished before I wrote anything on the forum, but I'm pleased to say I've just received over £260 (just over a month after completion). It basically covers the money I had to pay for the basic survey on the house, so lightens the financial load a bit at this expensive time.

There was excellent communication throughout, via the online mortgage tracker, but when I wanted to speak to a member of staff directly about something more urgent, they were on the end of a phone, with no pesky call centres.

So, my advice is: if you haven't researched the range of mortgages available, and/or you don't really feel confident about what a "good deal" looks like, you're better off using a fee-free broker, because the costs you might save in the long term could be considerably more.

BUT if you have done your research and KNOW that you have found the best mortgage deal, then go through Money Back Mortgages. Free money, after all!

ONLY the one post and that is picking up a thread from nearly 12 months ago.

  • I suspected someone would say I was a spammer, because I've thought the same myself after seeing single posters' comments.

Well, you can think what you want, but I just wanted other people to be able to benefit from what I did. I think I gave a balanced view of the dos and don'ts.

Were you not better off using a direct-to-lender product, something from the likes of HSBC, Post Office or Co-Op/Britannia? Most comparable "broker" products are more than £260 worse than you could get.
