long shot, but can anyone make any recommendations?

I know it's going to cost an arm and a leg, but I can't face the thought of trying to do what I usually do ...

  • Well for the true money saving option you could do what I'm doing with my partner this year and go to Flavorz buffet. They serve Italian, Mexian, Chinese and Indian food usually. It is the cheapest option I could find for Christmas in Bristol by far. I have been once before on Christmas day and they had meat joints and Christmas trimmings out as well as a big fresh whole fish. Very decent for a buffet though not really for a posh day out! They are charging around £17 on Christmas day for adults, cheaper for children. They also have free refills on fizzy drinks. They'll be blasting out the Christmas tunes again I'm sure. The Horts menu also looked nice but is a lot more expensive.

thanks, had not got as far as checking Flavorz but it's a good option, because the boys love 'eat all you like' options, and I can pick one handed options ...

Horts isn't one I know but location is good!

    will investigate further ...

I can reccommend the Fox Den in Stoke Gifford. The food there is superb. I can't remember the prices off the top of my head but we were going to do it last year. I think it was about £40 a head for 4 courses.

And a VERY surprise miracle in March 2017!
  • Distinctive and quaint, The Fox Den is a delightful hostelry on the outskirts of vibrant Bristol. From the pub you can take a series of walks - the Community Forest Path links country estates such as Blaise Castle House.

what a truly EXCELLENT suggestion it was to go to Flavourz! I may never do Christmas Dinner at home again! :rotfl: as you say, not a posh day out, and not even the 'best' all-you-can-eat in Bristol, but good fun and stupendous VFM. and best of all, NO WASHING UP AFTERWARDS!

if you were there ed, we were on the round table by the window: me the one-armed one in a shiny silver jacket with 4 handsome / scruffy chaps, I was the only one wearing a cracker hat, orange to start with but pink at the end!

Glad you enjoyed it. I think you must have been there later than us, we went at noon. They had lost our booking though:eek: but could still fit us in. Will double check next year. I was poorly last time we went so didn't really get to enjoy the experience, so was much better this year though less traditional Christmas food.

The pudding selection was amazing. My OH said it was his best xmas meal ever- definitely a good place for hungry men/ teenagers and was lovely to have somone else have to clean up the mess.:D
