Apple crumble - freeze it cooked or frozen?

Options
Hi all

Have made two crumbles tonight. Cooked (and eaten although not on my own :D ) one and want to freeze the other but should I freeze it as is (cooked apples raw crumble) or cook it and freeze it for the best result ?

I'd freeze it as it is, then you can cook it and eat it freshly cooked, rather than "warmed up" :)

Think I may well freeze as is in the hope that the top will be nice a crunchy when cooked. Thanks for the replies xx

I would cook it and then freeze it. I think if you put it in the freezer as it is, the topping may look a bit unappetizing when you take it out. Try both methods if you want to...but the next time on two smaller crumbles - to see what gives you the best result.

I have just taken out a crumble frozen during the week and it is fine!

What I usually do is to freeze the prepared fruit, and keep the crumble in the fridge. I can then knock up a fresh fruit crumble in a matter of minutes :D

I keep a bag of 'crumble' in the freezer so I can make a speedy crumble when something else is going into the oven.

I'm afraid I haven't frozen a made up crumble so can't comment on the original question.
  • I always freeze them uncooked and cook them from frozen. The fruit still has 'bite' that way rather than cooking it twice.
