Hi
I have dug out a big box of comics from the loft.
I'd like to get them valued and sold but don't know where to start. Not many comic shops/traders in York AFAIK.
They are mainly Marvel, mainly 10-20 yrs old. A lot of X-men/Wolverine stuff. A few special edition sets and a few graphic novels.
I do have a couple of early edition X-men, issues 46/97 I think. They certainly date from 1968 & 1975 respectively.
Of course condition is important, certainly not mint but no major damage.
Can anyone advise how to go about getting the best price for these items?
Thanks

Look if any are for sale/have sold on eBay and see what prices are being asked/have achieved. See if there is a Marvel Comics Collectors website which may well have some info.If you are querying your Council Tax band would you please state whether you are in England, Scotland or Wales0

How many do you have? 10-20 years of consecutive comics, or just the occasional one here and there?0

Hi,
No not 20yrs worth nor consecutive.
I imagine most aren't worth much at all. The earlier 1968 edition I've seen selling for anything between $20 and $300. It depends on the 'grading' of the piece.
There are also a few special editions, graphic novels etc, not sure how these weigh up.
I think they would be classed as 'Fine' but I'd rather have that verified professionally and then sold on for me, if that means them taking 10-20% fine.
They've been sat in the loft for 10yrs since I last moved so I think I may as well get rid.0 -
Have a look in the Yellow Pages. Even if there isn't anyone local then someone further afield may be willing to come out and value. A local auction house may also be interested.0

I don't now anything about comics but there is one very famous person who is well known for being a fanatic of Marvel and that's Jonathan Ross....I think his Twitter name is Wossy, but I'm sure he'll be easy to contact. I think Ebay is a good idea but without knowing anything about them it could end up being more trouble than it's worth for you.0

Give them a dust with a soft paintbrush and put them into plastic sleeves (ziplock bags).
Get a copy of Empire to see what comic book related films will be on release or in prost production next year - even if you do not sell them yourself, it is useful to know if a comic book character will have large scale appeal as it can raise the bargaining price.
Have a look at sites such as comic price guide (http://www.comicspriceguide.com/) as well as eBay.
Be patient in selling them: the prices of comics have dropped considerably since the 1990's even though good prices can be obtained. There are Travelling Man Comic Shops in Leeds, York and Manchester - which might give you a place to start in finding a market.0 -
Have PM'ed you.0
