Hi all

Have been lurking on this sight for about a month now. My total debt is almost £11000  This basically breaks down to an overdraft left over from uni(I've been graduated for over 6 years!), a credit card at 0% til next nov and a personal loan. I am currently on maternity leave so am receiving about a quarter of my salary at the mo. Go back part time in dec so will start making serious inroads into debt then...at the mo it is min payments. Feel am coping well with debts as I haven't added to them since jan. Just thought I'd say hi and use this sight as an extra motivater!

Love beany

    Hello and Welcome!

mortgage - £477 (interest only until remortage in may)
    alpf loan 165.22
    electricity - £27 - just changed
    gas £38
    Gas service for boiler £13.41
    BT - 15.50
    Council tax £106
car ins £65 This is high, can you shop around?
life ins £52.09 (high because I am classed as a risk cos overweight)
    NUT subs £15.60
    contents/building ins 31.54
sky - 43.50 (only real luxury i have as social life is non existent due to 4 month old baby) I know it's your only luxury but do you honestly watch all the channels? If you phone sky & say you're leaving they often offer reduced rates for several months I'm told!
    mobile £17
    tv license £10.99
    water rates £27.61
OH season ticket £45 - committed for year and would cause divorce if
    cancelled lol
Broad band - £15 Can you not get a better package with BB & phone together?
    OH mobile £15
shopping - 200 (incuding nappies, wipes etc and any b day pressies)
    oh train to work £110
petrol £160 Wow! That's huge considering your OH gets the train to work - are all these journeys really necessary?
childcare £300 (when i return to work)
haircuts are free (cousin is hairdresser)
    clothes £20 (mainly baby)
    going out £25
don't go to dentist (am trying to fing NHS fat chance !) You don't need to register anymore - any NHS dentist with an appointment has to see you, will find link in a minute
    CC repayment £95

Generally it looks like you're not too bad as there's £400 odd each month to chuck at your debts. Are you coping at the moment with the maternity pay?

Oh, and you'll be eligible to Child Tax Credits, and maybe Working Tax Credits too - try https://www.directgov.gov.uk and follow the links to benefits - they've got an online calculator which will work out how much you're entitled to!

    Hope this helps

  • I agree the petrol is really high. This is a rough guess. I am not sure what it will be when I am back at work 3 days a week. My SOA is based on that. My journey to work is a 35 mile round trip and my mum lives 130 miles away and we go there once a month too.

The car insurance is high (am going to pay one off next time) but is due to go up as I had a bump 2 weeks ago and was entirely my fault (doh). Will obv shop around when renewing (through quidco - i've just signed up!)

Am going to cancel movies on sky so that should knock some off!

Broadband with tesco and tied in til next june i think and then we are getting the sky broadband (so oh says)

Didn't know about the dentist - will look into that
