Dental desperation

Hi all,

I always looked forward to going to the dentist (yes really) until six years ago. I needed a root canal but the new dentist at my practice didn't give me enough anaesthetic, and I almost fainted with pain. My fear of the dentist began at that point.

A couple of years ago I plucked up the courage to go to a new dentist, on recommendation. I had several fillings and scaling sessions etc. which ended up costing me an arm and a leg. So I haven't been back because I cannot afford it.

I've since had a baby, and am now looking for a new dentist for the three of us. A few issues though -

1. We don't have any spare cash, so how do we go about finding one that's reasonable (we're in Cardiff, so recommendations welcome)?

2. I need a wisdom tooth out but I will not have it done unless I get put to sleep - where can I get this done?

Thanks for reading.

    Try looking on https://www.dentalfearcentral

for recommendations or again ask friends etc for recommendations.

You would need to be referred to hospital for ga and only a dentist can do this, so your first job is to go get that check up.

The heath hospital (dental) have a limited emergency service for patients but you do need to get there EARLY! If you are having problems with a wisdom tooth you MAY be able to get that sorted there. there is also an EDS service for emergencies with out of hours run out of St Davids hospital on weekends. again it is limited.
Outside that call cardiff LHB who will be able to direct you to practices accepting patients. I cant think of any specifically off the top of my head but I know there are a few around. Also there is a "super practice" in porth which is a training practice for newly qualified dentists. they may have some spaces. Just because you had a load of work done before doesnt mean you will still need it by the way. the best way to avoid expensive treatment is to be seen regularly for check ups and avoid problems in the first place. My guess is after all that work before, follow ups would have been significantly less.

Unless of course you want a private practice? I suspect many of these practices are accepting patients and there are some excellent practitioners around here.
