I have a gas oven and am thinking of getting an electric fan oven, I heard today that you cannot use tinfoil in an electric oven, is this true? how do you cover turkeys at Christmas etc. . Also if anyone is in love with their fan oven could you let me know a good make and model. One more thing, I would just be placing this oven on top of my counter, is that possible?, as I have nowhere to build it in to. Many thanks Penny

Oh Mum dosn't have gas at all, so has always used electric, she uses foil as well
I know she also reduces the cooking time, the fan element makes it more efficiant which must be good.0 -
The only difference I would note when using foil is that unlike a gas oven, you can't just lay the foil loosely across the top of a dish - you have to fold it down a little or else the fan just blows it off!!
Yes I know, but I'd always cooked with gas so I didn't know till I tried it!!!working on clearing the clutterDo I want the stuff or the space?0 -
I have a belling fan oven too. it has a great timer facility on it and you can do rotissery (Sp?) style stuff too (does roasties in few mins). I always had gas prior to this one and was worried about baking but have to be honest and say its been brill. But like all things maybe you get what you pay for at this did set us back over £500 a few years ago.
As for Belling they were brilliant as well. Had only had cooker a week when DD (2 at the time) pushed a stool over which hit the glass door (it was safety glass but broke into about 1000 pieces). Rang them up panicking how much it would cost to repair and they said free of charge - was really impressed! plus they sent 2 doors by mistake when i rang to tell them was told to keep it incase any other accidents happened!0 -
I have a range which has a fan oven in and I can't put an oven liner or foil on the floor of the oven because that's where the heating element is. Otherwise I can't see why you couldn't use foil to cover your food as per these other posts, just anchor it down so it doesn't blow away
I've certainly never heard that you can't anyway.

I have a fan oven and use foil all the time.
I think the important thing is not to let the foil touch the elements (not that you would anyway)

I really don't see how you could have a full size electric oven on a worktop. Apart from any stability problem, they are not finished around the outside as they are designed to be built in.
Is there something wrong with your gas oven? I was brought up cooking on gas and, although we have to have an electric oven because of kitchen layout reasons, I would be happier with a gas one for several reasons.0 -
I've always used foil and those teflon liners. No probs apart from the fan blowing them up. I do think the fan oven cooks things quicker, but not much.
Good luck with your purchase xIf you don't have something nice to say don't bother saying anything at all.0
