Can they claim my boyfriends house?

Hi everyone - I'm trying to avoid BR but due to the mess my ex husband left me in, it's still lurking as a likely option.

I've met a wonderful new guy and we're very happy together. He's currently buying his own place and I'll be moving in and paying rent. He's a little concerned (understandably) that if I do go
BR then the Receivers could claim part of his house if they think I've been contributing to the mortgage. Is this the case? Would
Us having a proper rental agreement be a good idea to avoid this?

Thanks
Petal

I would get him to sign a tenancy agreement with you that way you are both covered
If you woke up this morning congratulations, you have another chance :j

i'm in the same position, my partner owns his house with his brother and i pay half the mortgage and bills as rent and his brother is just an owner as an investment really. I went BR today and talked it through with the court clerk that helped me and he said thats fine there won't be an issue with it, the OR may ask you to do an offical rental agreement but thats about it.

Thanks guys, that puts my mind at ease :-)
  • My ex went Bankrupt. He lives with a lady who owns her own house. What he has done is, post goes elsewhere (as they can track this) He also has a care of address. This should solve things.

whats the point of hiding the address? the OR will have no interest in this house unless he is on the mortgage/paid money towards the deposit etc etc if its not his house then they don't have any interest, same as when people live at home with their parents etc. no need to be a bit dodgy about it, they won't have any interest anyway :) to the OP, just be honest its much better than lying as above.
