Deduction in wages due to Snow - legal?

Hi
I'm, currently working as a temp for a marketing company every fri, sat,sun up until xmas. I could not go today due to being snowed in and and have received an email stating that:
If you do take time off due to snow you will be required to either:
1. Make the time up as agreed with your Team Leader
2. Take unpaid leave and a deduction will be made from your wages
Now, i don't have any spare days to make up time, So are they going to deduct from my days already worked? they are paying 12.1percent holiday pay in with the day rate I get. I just cant get my head round it,are they saying that they will deduct a whole days wage that i have previously worked? how can that be?? I thought that from a legal point of view you have a right to be paid for the days you have worked..
thoughts anyone?:(

no it means you just won't be paid today as you broke the contract by not getting into work. They won't deduct another days pay as punishment if that is what you are worrying.The Googlewhacker referance is to Dave Gorman and not to my opinion of the search engine!

You seem utterly perplexed, but to me it seems quite simple. When you get your wages for this week, you'll see you've not been paid for today. That's assuming you get in tomorrow and Sunday.0

Hi
That's what I thought!! but it reads like that will deduct money from me from days I have worked already, maybe the snow has got into my brain...I have emailed them for clarification.

Here's some vague maths that might help. Let's assume you get £50/day, for 3 days/week. On top of that they pay you holiday pay of 12%
Day1: £50 + £6 holiday pay
Day2: £50 + £6 holiday pay
Day3: £50 + £6 holiday pay
=====================
PAYSLIP: £150 wages (£18 holiday pay in the pot)
=====================
Day4: £50 + £6 holiday pay
Day5: £50 + £6 holiday pay
Day6: £50 + £6 holiday pay
=====================
PAYSLIP: £150 wages (£36 total holiday pay in the pot)
=====================
Day7: £50 + £6 holiday pay
Day8: £50 + £6 holiday pay
Day9: £50 + £6 holiday pay
=====================
PAYSLIP: £150 wages (£54 total holiday pay in the pot)
So, at this point you've had three weeks of £150 in your hand - and there's £54 in your holiday pay pot.
Now you're snowed in, so this week it would read:
Day10: Snowed in/no work
Day11: £50 + £6 holiday pay
Day12: £50 + £6 holiday pay
=====================
PAYSLIP: £100 wages (£66 total holiday pay in the pot)
HOLIDAY TAKEN: £50
PAID TO YOU: £100+£50 (£16 holiday pay in the pot).
=====================
Not sure if that helps ..... but I did it anyway.0
