Storage Heater doesn't work
Hi, I hope someone can help me. I moved into my one bed flat in the summer and now i need the storage heater in my bedroom it doesn't work and I'm frozen (mind you the one that does work in the lounge is next to useless!)
When I moved in the previous owner had curtains which covered the vents so I suspected it's cut out due to overheating. I've tried replacing the amp but still nothing.
I've read somewhere that there's a re-set button which can be located by removing the cover but embarrassingly I can't figure out how to do this. It's a Dimplex but I don't know what model though I suspect it's quite old as it's a horrible brownish colour. I thought the screws were underneath the unit but the only ones I can see seem to ne holding the feet on!
Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

If you rent your flat talk to your landlord regarding fixing it. If you own the flat....go to the web site of the maker of the storage heater (Dimplex/Creda etc) and download the instructions.Today, my BEST is good enough.0

I have several Dimplex 7X range. In 20 years, I've had one fault in one of them, and that was last year, Sounds the same fault as yours - it overheated, then the next day didn't heat at all. Simply unscrew the top cover, and press down to release the bimetallic strip mechanism. I didn't really know what I was doing when I fixed mine, and just pressed around likely looking bits (don't do it at night when the electricity may be on!), then suddenly a 'ping' and something released, and the heater has worked perfectly since.
I also cleaned out all the dust which had accumulated (and probably caused the problem) from everywhere I could access, and sprayed around plenty (but not too much!) of wd40 on anything that moved, like the squeeky input and output knobs). Or call an electrician and let him do it for you for a hundred quid.
Although these storage heaters are now expensive to run, you don't half save a lot by not having an expensive service every year or so.0 -
On my elderly Dimplex, the case screws are along the top back edge. And the top and front then pulls forward on small location lugs and lifts off some tabs at the bottom. It is a bit of a fiddle, as the control components are in the way.
When mine over heated and stopped working (seems to be a common occurrence!), I found the cutout was a small round metal disc, that was bowed. Touched it and it pinged back flat and all was well.0
