Classic Christmas Songs........

Why is it now, that there are no new christmas songs?
The charts at christmas are taken up with the usual boring X Factor wannabe's etc which is just manufactured crap.
What was the last "classic" christmas song released?
If you think about it, as a singer, write & record a really good christmas song that way, you're guranteed of future earnings (royalties) and you will never be forgotten - ok, you may only come out the cupboard once a year, but you will go on and on!!

I'd be happy to buy *any* song, even if I dont like it, to stop the x-factor manipulation of the Christmas charts.0 -

Totally agree. However I think I would have preferred Wagner to have won XFactor, at least you could have guaranteed a fun, upbeat christmas song.
The ones that are left are crooners, its gonna be some flippin ballad xmas song this year :mad:0 -
does anyone know yet what the song is that the x factor winner will release as their first song?0

I like that song by the Darkness that mkgirl mentioned and also Proper Crimbo by the Bo Selecta characters, not exactly the usual sickly sweet Christmas tune but good for a laugh!
edit: somehow I forgot about Mr Hankey the Christmas Poo! Sing along now Granny...:D0 -
Its not strictly a Christmas song but i love Winter by Tori Amos.
Charlotte Church has a lovely song called Snow on her latest album.
The Tori Amos one is a ballard but its a beautiful ballard and at least they are both original songs. I would love to see an original song like this as the Christmas no 1 instead of the usual manufactured rubbish.0 -
the coldplay one doesn't sound very festive to me!!
