savings accounts

will I get credit checked opening a savings account with my bank?

  • You may be checked to see if you are bankrupt.
    Some banks will only open a savings account if you have a current account with them.
  • I have defaults, thats all

    and I do have a current account with them.

  • I know they look at your credit history for fraud prevention, but i didnt see how they might turn me down when there are no credit facilities available!

  • any problems go for citibank which i applied for online and i got fine and my credit rating is f**ked

    They will still check you for a savings account as in theory a savings account could be used for money laundering.(I just started work last week for a bank )

    as you savings a/c will be linked to your currant account then no checks required its just opened from the details held.

    the check should only be for new customers not existing ones
  • I've opened a couple of savings accounts (as a new customer) in the past couple of years and they didn't show on my credit files.

    This is no longer the case.
  • i have a few savings account and none have done a credit check (two are high interest ones mentioned in martins articles) i didnt think they could do one as they arnt providing you with 'credit' :confused:
