will I get credit checked opening a savings account with my bank?

You may be checked to see if you are bankrupt.
Some banks will only open a savings account if you have a current account with them.

I know they look at your credit history for fraud prevention, but i didnt see how they might turn me down when there are no credit facilities available!

any problems go for citibank which i applied for online and i got fine and my credit rating is f**ked

They will still check you for a savings account as in theory a savings account could be used for money laundering.(I just started work last week for a bank )

as you savings a/c will be linked to your currant account then no checks required its just opened from the details held.

the check should only be for new customers not existing ones

I've opened a couple of savings accounts (as a new customer) in the past couple of years and they didn't show on my credit files.

This is no longer the case.

i have a few savings account and none have done a credit check (two are high interest ones mentioned in martins articles) i didnt think they could do one as they arnt providing you with 'credit'
