Name for a new sewing business... Help

Hi

I'd like to set up a little sewing business, selling baby items and bags and corsets and i'm really stuck for a name...

Any suggestions would be great recieved. I'm getting married in June so i don't really want to use my surname.

Thanks

its going to be hard to come up with a name that conjures up what you actually do. are you a seamstress, or are you baby shop, bag shop or underwear shop?

where were you planning on selling them? online, crafts fairs, or in an actual shop?

if you are going for online sales, tbh, i think i would set up differently names sites for each product, but with a link to take people to the other products you sell

i dont think people who are after baby items, will be happy to look at corsetry as well in the same shop, iyswim

if you give your business a name that refers to sewing, then people wont know you do anything other than alterations/commissions. same with all your other products, they are just too varied to have one umbrella name

I agree with flea. i have just set up an online shop where i sell on my homesewn items. Because i make a wide variety of items from handbags to sock monkeys to fabric gift bags i didn't even try and pick a name that describes them all. I called my scratchy cat and if you click on my homepage there is a link on the left hand side to my shop if you want to have a nosey for idea's.

    "In Stitches"
Some days you're the dog..... most days you're the tree! :D
  • I completely agree with what you are saying, because it is such a varied range of items i knew i had to find a name to cover the actual business not what i made and sold within it.

I am a seamstress by trade. but was thinking craft fairs and online with individual comissions for the corsets.

the name is so hard! you want to get it right don't you!

if the name doesnt matter, as it wont actually reflect what the business does, then just use something that appeals to you

some people use a mix of their kids/family name

tbh, whats wrong with calling it sunshine shell, as you obviously already have an affinity with it

    Sew-long sucker!

    Sew-what

Sew many stitches, sew little time

    these are terrible.
  • sew sunny
    sew what
    sew crafty
    sew chic
    sew amazing
    sew much
    etc etc

    Shell's Sewing Room
    sew it seams

    threads & bobbins
    snips & scissors
    needle & thread

    top stich/ing

Or maybe the words sewn, stitch or sew in another language?

(can you tell I am snowed in lol!)

It is a hard thing to do i think - like you say, you want to get right!

I have my own silversmithing business and thought for ages about names that included 'silver' or 'jewellery' or 'accessories'.... I just couldn't find something that covered everything I do, so I picked a name for the company that I liked and felt sounded professional and classy.

It does't say what I do, but that in no way stops people visiting my website. :)

Also I have 'collections' (wedding, children's jewellery etc). You could do the same with your products and have 'baby boutique by whateveryournameis' and 'lingerie by whateveryournameis'........ does that make sense??
