Tooday i recieved back from the tax office p800 informing me for 2008 -2009 i paid £917 to much. For 2009 - 2010 i paid £ 918 to much.
Can I claim interest for the £917 for 2 years and 1 year for the £918??
Seems only fair as they got it wrong. I don't earn much and this is a life saver for me at the moment.
thanks in advance.

The first year - yes. But it may paid automatically - check when you actually get the refund. It won't be a year's interest - from 1 Feb 2010 until date of payment
The second year only if you don't receive it before 1 Feb next year0 -

More importantly, why did you overpay? Could the same apply to 2004/05, 2005/06, 2006/07 or 2007/08? You might be due further refunds.
Has it been put right for 2010/11?I am an Accountant. You should note that this site doesn't check my status as an Accountant. All posts on here are for information and discussion purposes only and should not be seen as professional advice.0 -

There will be Repayment Supplement (aka 'interest') added to the 08-09 payment. If you look at the bottom of the computation on the P800 for 08-09 it will show it (with a note '17' on the right hand side). You won't get anything for 09-10 as they're within the timeframe for repaying (prior Jan 11).If you want to test the depth of the water .........don't use both feet !0
