tax for self employed and pensions

  • I think we have been seriously over-paying on tax for a few years now. I;ve seen that section on the tax return but didn't think we needed to complete it as we have paid our pension contribution and got the relief from the government. Is this something we should put on tax return to reduce income?

When my hubby was self-employed, our advisor never told us about this. We paid £200 a month and got the tax relief added on by government so about £40 I guess was added to it and invested. Was there something there we could have claimed back? Can we still claim it back?

Also, what's that bit about getting more tax credits? Should I be knocking off the pension contributions from our income for tax credit purposes?

    Worried now. Help!
