Wedding Reception Decorating Idea's

Options
Hi all,

Has anyone got any idea's for my wedding reception decorating?

I am getting married in July 2011, the reception is at my local village hall and we are having a fish and chip van in the car park. The hall is fairly small and we are doing all the decorating ourselves. Any idea's as I am hitting a brick wall in my brain!!!

Thank you!!!!!!

  • I would recommend candles, they make everything look good, even a tatty hall (like we're having). Get loads of different sizes, from pillar ones to tea lights and put them all over the tables. Not sure if that's the case with most halls, but ours aren't exactly savvy on the ambient lighting front so candles will light up the room without it being pitch black or hospital bright.

It depends on your budget. I've seen some indoor marquees (drapes made to look like the real thing) that look nice. I have no idea what they cost though.
There are some ideas here http://www.weddingchaos.co.uk/wedding-venues/wedding-venue-decoration.asp

  • How about going for a village summer fete vibe with a bit of bunting? (thanks to a previous poster for bringing the ebay seller to my attention!)

For table centres I like the candles idea, but if there will be plenty of natural light in the hall, or if the venue doesn't allow naked flames you could have wildflowers in vases or jars, a bit like this

Just one idea, but it was the one that sprang to my mind when you mentioned village hall!

After christmas you will be able to pick up loads of fairy lights pretty cheaply too.

You could go for a whole seaside theme if you're having fish & chips - get some empty jam jars, fill them with sand and put
a tea light in them - wrap ribbon around them and sprinkle sea shells on the tables...!
    Just an idea...
